“Family Values” Message 8-28-22

Point: We have been made family by a different blood: the blood of Jesus Christ.

Scripture: Luke 8:19-21

Principles for studying a passage of Scripture:

Comprehension: Asks – What does the passage say?
Interpretation: Asks – What does the passage mean?
Application: Asks – How should this passage change me?

Questions:

What is the difference between Jesus’ blood family and His spiritual family? Explain.

Jesus says that His family are those who “hear the Word of God and do it”. How does God’s Word make us family? Explain.

Read James 1:22-25. As God’s family, what does it look like to put ourselves under God’s Word in submission?

Read John 13:34-35. One proof that we are part of God’s family is our love for God and for each other. What should “family love” look like in the church? How is it different from your blood family? How is it similar?

How can we learn from Jesus about how to treat our church family? Explain/give examples.

What do you need to work on this week to be a better brother/sister in Christ? Be honest and specific. Give us a plan for change.
